Hangul.
EXHIBITION + PUBLICATION
I discovered Hangul (the Korean writing system) in 2021. I was supposed to visit a relative in Seoul and in preparation, I learned how to decipher the letters. I then fell in love with the design of this alphabet, and to be able to use it regularly, I started learning the Korean language. And the more words I knew, the stronger my affection for Hangul grew. So much so that I wanted to make it the main subject of my new artistic creations.
To highlight the beauty of these unique letters coming from the other side of the world, I then made photographs where I brought Hangul, which I used as a pattern in ephemeral installations (taped on walls, sewn on fabrics, drawn on posters, cut out of cardboards, traced with chalk...) into dialogue with landscapes and settings that I love from my own country, France.
This series, which includes around fifty images, has been the subject of publications and an exhibition in 2023.
